Luczaj and geology students share outdoor learning adventures

The Log (and M/UC) welcomes photo submissions from faculty, staff and students, since we can’t be everywhere. Thanks to Prof. John Luczaj for submitting these images of recent “applied learning” opportunities during field trips in his glacial geology course, “Quaternary Geology.” Luczaj says the image above shows students examining giant ancient landslide blocks along the Niagara Escarpment (in this case at Bayshore Park), and in the photo below, studying sediments above a quarry. These sediments show a record of ancient Glacial Lake Oshkosh and advances of the glacier over the Two Creeks Buried Forest, 13,500 years ago. Further cool factor… students even found some of the buried forest logs.
