Martin interviewed for NPR blog

Associate Prof. Ryan Martin of Human Development, chair of Psychology, was interviewed recently for the popular National Public Radio podcast program “Invisibilia.” Thanks to his work on rage, the internet and the impact of online debate on user emotions and mood, he was sought out as a guest expert. Martin said the validation of seeing multiple “thumbs-up” icons or of being retweeted triggers a physiological response and “helps us feel content and at ease and in a state of equilibrium… It’s validating in a way that is very different from how we’re validated in our offline life… I can now quantify how much people appreciated what I said.” Martin’s section is included in the second part of the “How to grow a bully” podcast.
