Hutchison: Lesser chain migration a factor in slow growth in black population

Prof. Ray Hutchison also was featured in Sunday’s Press-Gazette, weighing in on slow growth in Green Bay’s African-American population — despite significant gains made by other minority groups. Green Bay’s population has become more diverse overall, said Hutchison, chair of Urban and Regional Studies, but Hmong and Hispanic populations have grown more quickly. “The reason the Hmong population grew was, families came and then had other members of their extended families join them. Word went out: ‘Here’s a good place to come,” Hutchison said. “The same thing with the Mexican population.
