The acid talk: Chen will present at Friday’s NAS Seminar

Chemist and Associate Prof. Franklin Chen will be the speaker this Friday (Sept. 26) when the Natural and Applied Sciences Seminar Series resumes. The title of his presentation is “Electronic Origins of Acid-Base Character: Natural
Acidity Analysis of Aqueous Bronsted-Lowry Oxyacids.” We’re told that both classical induction effects and quantum mechanical hyperconugation are found to affect acidity, but the latter is clearly dominant in most of the acids. Chen’s explanation will take place at 3 p.m. in Room 301 of the Environmental Sciences Building, followed by a social at 4 p.m. in ES 317. The event is free and open to the public.
