Furniture-adoption program: The sequel

With several student residence halls getting new furniture this month, members of the campus community are receiving another special invitation to claim the used furniture being replaced.  (It’s a followup to last weekend’s well-received distribution.) This time, the opportunity will involve approximately 150 dressers and 150 desks. (Sorry, no beds.) The “adoption” will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 6) at Small, Vanderperren and Warren Halls located on Leon Bond Circle. The free items will be available for do-it-yourself pickup on a first-come, first-served basis. Glenn Gray, Residence Life director, says while the scale will be smaller, the same distribution protocols will be observed as last weekend, with all UW-Green Bay students, faculty and staff required to bring a copy of a Revised Hold Harmless Agreement (see below) if they choose to participate.

The 25-year-old furniture up for adoption is not University property, but belongs instead to University Village Housing, Inc., the local non-profit corporation that has built and furnished residence halls at UW-Green Bay since the mid-1980s. Officers of the UVHI board endorsed the free “clearance” offer to students, staff and faculty after first posting the surplus furniture for re-sale and finding no market, and offering it free to local charities.

‘Hold Harmless Agreement’ attached

Completion of the “Revised Hold Harmless Agreement” will be required for admission to the residence halls. Click here to download (PDF) the Revised Hold Harmless Agreement. Residence Life, on behalf of UVHI, will ask those who participate to print and complete the PDF and bring it along on moving day.
