Two educators with campus ties receive Wisconsin Association of Colleges for Teacher Education awards

The Wisconsin Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (WACTE) presented awards to 59 outstanding educators from across Wisconsin in April, in Madison. The awards are an effort by WACTE to celebrate great teaching. Two of the award winners are strong UW-Green Bay supporters.

2018-02-12 Cynthia SanchezUW-Green Bay alumna Cynthia Sanchez (Spanish and Psychology), currently a bilingual teacher at Anne Sullivan Elementary School in Green Bay, was awarded the WACTE Early Career Educator Award. This award is presented to an outstanding educator within the first three years of her/his professional career. The award recipient is selected based on any combination of the following:  positive impact individual has on schools or communities; innovation in designing learning experiences, and advocacy for students.

 

2018-02-12 Kathy VanPay
Kathy VanPay, principal of Heritage Elementary School in De Pere and mentor for UW-Green Bay pre-service teachers for over a decade, was awarded the WACTE Pre-Service Educator Award. This award is presented to an outstanding educator who has demonstrated a sustained pattern of mentoring pre-service educators for at least five years.The award recipient is selected based on attributes such as:  the ability to model professional responsibility, evidentiary assessment, effective classroom management, the ability to mentor pre-service teacher candidates in developing their capacity to be a leader; and the ability to nurture candidates as they face a wide range of issues.
