UW-Green Bay earns grant to fund middle school music camp scholarships

Fifty Door County middle school students will be able to attend a UW-Green Bay summer 2012 music camp at no cost thanks to a $6,050 grant from the Peninsula Arts Association of Door County, a re-granting agency of the Wisconsin Arts Board.

The award will provide full scholarships and transportation for students from the Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door school districts who attend UW-Green Bay’s Middle School Band, Orchestra and Choir Camp July 15-20, 2012.

Student scholarship recipients will be selected by their music teachers, two of whom — Dawn (Kloida) Pitzen and Lauri Rosenthal — are UW-Green Bay alumni, said Mona Christensen, UW-Green Bay director of camps and conferences.

“We are just thrilled to be receiving this grant allocation, which will provide full scholarships for 50 very talented and deserving students,” Christensen said. “Thanks to this generous award, these young musicians will receive an enriching, rewarding summer camp experience at no cost to them.”

UW-Green Bay’s middle school music camp has served students from greater Green Bay and beyond since 1965. About 200 young musicians attend the camp each summer.
