Chancellor Thomas K. Harden has signed an international memorandum of understanding with representatives from the Universidad Nacional de Tumbes in Tumbes, Peru, which may lead to educational collaboration between the schools.

Monday’s signing ceremony between Chancellor Harden and Rector Napoleón Puño Lecarnaqué provides the framework for activities that could benefit both schools.

“We see this as an opportunity to broaden the perspectives of our students and faculty,” said Brent Blahnik, director of International Education at UW-Green Bay. “It will begin with a one-credit online nursing course.”

The list of potential activities includes:

  • The pursuit of joint research or publishing projects.
  • Exchanges of information and materials in fields of interest to both universities.
  • Exchanges of faculty for research, teaching and or/community service projects.
  • Online collaboration among classes.
  • The hosting of sponsored activities such as tours and practicums.

Tumbes is located in northwest Peru.

During his visit to Green Bay, Rector Lecarnaqué also expressed interest in UW-Green Bay’s strong record in environmental studies and the cleanup of the Fox River.
