UW-Green Bay hosts ‘An Evening with Rachel Simon,’ featuring acclaimed author

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Office of Student Life will present “An Evening with Rachel Simon,” featuring the critically acclaimed author of the bestselling memoir Riding the Bus with My Sister, from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4 in the Christie Theatre of the University Union, 2420 Nicolet Drive.

During the event, which is free and open to the public, Simon will present a reading and talk about her most recent book, The Story of Beautiful Girl. A reception and book signing will follow in Suite 150 of the University Union.

Simon is best known for the critically acclaimed Riding the Bus with My Sister, which was adapted for a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie of the same name. Her presentation is part of UW-Green Bay’s Women’s Leadership Program and the University’s speaker series.

“We are very excited for Rachel Simon’s visit,” said Sheila Carter, program coordinator for UW-Green Bay Student Life. “Her books provide a unique perspective into the world of the developmentally disabled, giving us all an opportunity to examine our own attitudes and perceptions.”

Simon’s disability-themed writing stems in part from experiences with her sister, who has an intellectual disability.
