UW-Green Bay concert to feature Chorale, Concert Choir, Vocal Jazz Ensemble

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Chorale, Concert Choir and Vocal Jazz Ensembles will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 2 for a joint concert on the mainstage of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.

The UW-Green Bay Concert Choir will perform first, under the direction of Assistant Prof. Randall Meder. Accompanied by pianist Mary Slavek, the choir will perform such works as “Do You Not Know” (Thomas Morley), “Sound the Trumpet” (Henry Purcell) and “Gloria in Excelsis,” which has been attributed to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart but it likely the work of Wenzesla Müller.

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble will take the stage next, performing a variety of more modern selections under the direction of Associate Lecturer Chris Salerno. These include the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows,” arranged by Tomas Bergquist for The Real Group; and The Beatles’ “In My Life,” arranged by Steve Zegree. The group will conclude with Chris Salerno’s arrangement of “Nothing You Can Do.”

Following a brief intermission, the concert will conclude with the UW-Green Bay Chorale, also under Meder’s direction, and with Assistant Prof. David Severtson accompanying on piano. The group will begin with John Farmer’s “Fair Phyllis I Saw” and Thomas Tomkins’ “Oh Yes! Has Any Found a Lad?” before concluding with “Four Songs for Mixed Choir, Op. 29” from Antonín Dvořák.
