Construction begins Monday on Student Services rooftop project

Construction work on the Student Services Building rooftop project is scheduled to begin Monday (June 25), as the general contractor initiates staging and site protection. Demolition of the outdoor plaza’s existing concrete and planters will begin Tuesday and continue for approximately three weeks. Of interest to the campus community: You’ll see a trailer and fencing on site, as well as protective covers over some of the windows (Rooms 1721 and 1721A, the Trio offices area). During construction, the exit/entrance nearest the Dean of Students Office (and across from Room 1902) will be available only as an emergency exit. The driveway and parking area north of the Student Services Building will be closed for the duration of the project, which has a scheduled completion date of Oct. 31. Alternative handicap parking will be available in the Weidner Center administrative lot and in front of the Cofrin Library. We’ll have more on the project — intended to replace the outdated roof deck and provide better insulation to the one-story Student Services Building below — next week. We’ll also detail how the project also provides an opportunity to update seating areas and planters and outdoor plaza gathering space adjacent to the University Union. In the meantime, questions or concerns about Monday’s project startup should be forwarded to Aaron Epps, campus facilities planner (Ext. 2202).
