UW-Green Bay authors and artists celebrated at April 12th event

As part of National Library Week, April 11 through 17, the Cofrin Library will present “UW-Green Bay Authors and Artists: A Celebration of Scholarship,” from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Monday, April 12. The event will take place on the third floor of the Cofrin Library.

The celebration recognizes the scholarship and research of UW-Green Bay faculty, staff, and alumni by honoring those that have published a book, book chapter, article, edited book, or piece of art in the past two years.

“Because our library staff often have opportunities to help faculty with their research needs, whether it be through reference questions, interlibrary loan or simply checking out a book, we see the time and work that goes into publishing and we wanted to recognize that,” explains Cofrin Library director, Paula Ganyard.

UW-Green Bay puts on an Academic Excellence Symposium annually to celebrate student scholarship, but there was no event that celebrated faculty, staff and alumni scholarship, Ganyard noted.

“During the early years of the University, Chancellor Weidner referred to the library as the ‘academic heart’ of the institution and this is so true,” Ganyard says. “What better place is there, to celebrate academic scholarship, than at the “academic heart” of the University?”

Among those with featured works are Deb Pearson, Sandy Stokes, Vicki Meland, Lynn Walter, Laurel Phoenix, Karen Lacey, Greg Aldrete, Derek Jeffreys, Kim Nielsen, Mark Everingham, Lucy Arendt, Scott Furlong, Michael Kraft, David Voelker, Rebecca Meacham, Aeron Haynie, Dean VonDras, Regan Gurung and Clif Ganyard.

The long list of authors and artists can be found here.

Provost Julia Wallace will make a few brief remarks at 3:15 p.m. with an announcement by the Friends of the Cofrin Library immediately following. People attending can expect displays with many of the published pieces. There will also be music from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. by faculty members Stephan Hall, Adam Gaines and Craig Hanke. Included is a display case and slide show of art pieces by Jeni Mokren, Alison Gates, Minkyu Lee, Sarah Detweiler and Carol Emmons.
