UW-Green Bay’s Camp Lloyd: sharing grief and finding joy

Nearly 50 children found solace in UW-Green Bay’s 11th Annual Camp Lloyd last week (June 20-24) — the summer camp that helps kids cope with the loss of a loved one. Packed in between somber moments was the fun and excitement of a typical camp experience (including arts and crafts, music, games, swimming, hiking and even a day-trip to Door County for paddle boarding and kayaking), Camp Lloyd also provides time for campers to reflect, explore their own experiences of grief, share and find support from others — many of the counselors and mentors are UW-Green Bay graduates and undergraduates. The camp that began with nine children in 2006 had nearly 50 participants again this year. Prof. Illene Cupit is the camp director. Read more about Camp Lloyd.
