New Founders president grateful for ‘gift’ of UW-Green Bay

Scott Wochos knows quality in higher education. A Duke University grad with a Harvard law degree, he can also be considered this community’s No. 1 booster of UW-Green Bay. Wochos is incoming president of the school’s Founders Association, succeeding John Heugel on July 1, 2010.

In remarks last fall to faculty and staff at the institution’s opening convocation, he shared why he believes the Founders group is special. As someone who never attended UW-Green Bay, he offered a heartfelt testimonial as to why he and others like him support the school with such enthusiasm.

“You know, I’ve served on any number of boards, as I’m sure many of you have, but this one (the Founders Association) has the simplest and purest mission of any board I have served on, and I’m proud to be affiliated with it,” he said. “We raise funds… and nearly two-thirds of the money we raise goes to student scholarships… what could be better than that, to raise money to give back to this community?

“Last year, I think we had more than 2,000 individuals contributing to our efforts. That includes faculty, staff, students, alumni… and many people like me, who just live in the community and want to see this University succeed and are grateful for its presence. This University is an absolute gift to have in this city.”

Wochos is senior vice president and general counsel for Green Bay Packaging Inc. He and his wife, Cindy, have 3 children.

Wochos offered his testimonial to the campus/community philanthropical organization as a prelude to presenting the 2009 Founders Association Awards for Excellence to outstanding faculty and staff.
