The Edward W. Weidner Center for the Performing Arts opened its doors in 1993 and marked the beginning of a new era of arts and entertainment for the state of Wisconsin. Dr. David Cofrin offered the seed gift to begin planning the state of the Weidner on two conditions: the Center must be located on the UW-Green Bay campus, and it should serve the entire community. The original 1968 master plan for the UW-Green Bay campus included a performing arts center, allowing for state funds to be allocated towards the project. It’s namesake, Edward W. Weidner, the University’s founding chancellor, championed the campaign and garnered community support and leadership. This video dates back 25 years, to Chancellor David Outcalt’s introduction and comments by Weidner at the dedication ceremony.
