UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus CEO Cindy Bailey and NWTC-Marinette Dean Jennifer Flatt have been working tirelessly and collaboratively to provide higher education opportunities to the Marinette region through the Marinette Area Higher Education Coalition. A recent video shoot which will be directed at future virtual programming in the Marinette region, provided interaction between their mascots in the lobby at NWTC-Marinette.

What follows is their September Column submitted to local media:

Making a decision about college at any time is challenging, but we know that it is especially difficult now. On-campus events that might typically help guide someone’s choice may not occur this year. Envisioning your future may feel overwhelming. Even if you are able to visit a campus, college does not look this year the same as it has in the past or the way it will in the future.

So how do you make decisions about your college pathway? Colleges and universities across the country are rising to the challenge and offering information and experiences in innovative, virtual ways. Here in the state of Wisconsin and at NWTC Marinette and UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus, we are embarking on an adventure, creatively showcasing what our campuses have to offer in new ways.

The Wisconsin Education Fair (WEF) is a resource for students that typically is held in person in September. This year’s Fair will be virtual, accessible on multiple dates, and open to parents as well as students at flexible times to meet your schedule. Access virtual campus tours for colleges across the Upper Midwest. Search for colleges by program, size, and location. Watch videos and download materials to help in your decision process. Learn about financial aid. Visit wefs.org and click on “Register for Fairs” to learn more.

NWTC Marinette and UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus are open for in-person tours by appointment. Individual or family tours are excellent opportunities to engage in conversation about your specific interests and goals. Call or go online to our websites to schedule your personalized tour.

Our current students are also exploring what it means to be a student in their field during this time. Virtual events like Major Mondays at UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus, offer students an opportunity to explore majors, plan for their future, and connect with other students, faculty, and staff.

NWTC Marinette’s Virtual Tech Challenge allows Trades students on campus this year to create and compete with other students, showcasing products virtually to students, faculty, and staff.

The College of Business Network will be a virtual collaborative project across both local campuses, connecting students majoring in all business-related fields to discuss and learn about relevant topics like financial literacy, LinkedIn and networking, as well as social media tips for the business world.

Making a decision about college this year will lead to lots of questions—even more than in a normal year. Rather than feeling isolated and confused, reach out to us! We are here for all people who are trying to determine their college path, no matter where they plan to attend.
