Monument to an Insignificant Activity

top-story-cardboardThat’s the title of a class project in Art Prof. Alison Stehlik’s Design Methods 106 class.  Students were directed to observe the activities of UW-Green Bay students in certain locations across campus.  They were asked to consider the very subtle ways in which the space affected human behavior.  In groups, the art students created “large-scale representational monuments to the seemingly insignificant activities that they observed.” The results, as you might expect, were creative… including oversize slot machines, muffins and Bobo the elevator elephant who exhibits the human nature to want to make one’s self smaller as the car fills up. Reads the artists’ statement: “Bobo is trying to give enough room for everyone, but unfortunately he is an elephant.”
