COVID-19 Why it Matters Part 29, Omicron challenges & recommendations Transcript:

Hello Brian Merkel, microbiology and immunology at UW-green bay and we are here to talk about why COVID-19 matters to you.

The scientific process is constantly accumulating evidence over time so that we can then inform policies that are rooted in science. Because of what we have learned about the Omicron variant and how transmissible it is, we need to use other types of masks including the 95 style of masks.

The change from a 10-day quarantine to a five-day quarantine is that you are most contagious within that five-day period. We should be coming vaccinated. We should be wearing proper masks, appropriately, in the right settings. All of these kinds of measures will help us get to a point where COVID-19 is much more manageable and that’s something that we all share in common.

We don’t want to see our hospital workers go through what they’re going through right now. We don’t want to see our friends and families not getting the care that they need to have because we’re not doing the right thing and because we’re not doing the right thing we’re overburdening hospital infrastructure.
