Family, friends and fabulous basketball

It was a night for friends, family and the Phoenix when the men’s basketball alumni gathered for Alumni Day, Saturday, January 28. Events included a pre- and post-game reception for all Phoenix alumni, throwback jerseys for the youth, and alumni introductions at halftime of the Green Bay Phoenix vs. Butler Bulldogs men’s basketball game at the Resch Center. The Phoenix swept the weekend series, beating the Bulldogs 80-68 in front of its largest crowd of the season. Green Bay upset Horizon League-leading Valparaiso earlier in the week, 75-60.

The UW-Green Bay athletics department also took the opportunity to honor former Phoenix men’s basketball player Matt Hill with a special video presentation. Hill passed away recently from post-surgery complications. You can view the presentation here.

Also that evening, Phoenix Athletics honored two special employees. Marilyn McCarey and Frank Madzarevic combined to contribute 75 years of service to UW-Green Bay until their recent retirements. McCarey served the University for 40 years, mostly in the capacity of the athletics ticket director. Madzarevic , a 1977 alumnus, managed athletics facilities and oversaw games management for UW-Green Bay athletics for 35 years.
