UW-Green Bay students donate 6,000 lbs for charitable use
UW-Green Bay students donated about 6,000 pounds of material to local thrift shops and community partners as part of campus move-out this spring. Clothes, kitchen goods, furniture, books, stuffed animals, and unopened edibles found a new home and avoided the local landfill. Thanks to the cooperation of St. Vincent De Paul, students only had to walk to drop-off bins in their residence halls for bulk pick-up at the end of the semester.
“All donations are helpful but the ones we get in from college students usually are more in line of what we are in the most need of,” said Jeremy Bartels, warehouse manager at St. Vincent De Paul: Students have very limited space so the items they have tend to be more of a necessity and not just purely decoration.” Among the donated goods were about 35 cubic feet of non-perishable food packages donated to Paul’s Pantry, a community initiative founded in 1984 to help families in need fight hunger.
