Alumni promote bone-marrow registry

Former UW-Green Bay soccer star Dr. Nezih Hasanoglu ’78 is appealing to alumni and friends of the University to consider taking an interest in becoming potential bone-marrow donors.

The family of his friend and teammate, Curt Anderson ‘79, is struggling to cope with the illness of Curt’s wife, Kelly Satter Anderson, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. A bone marrow transplant would increase her probability of survival from very low to better than 50/50, but no family members are a match and there are no current matches in the national bone marrow registry.

Friends of the Andersons are encouraging people to investigate the National Bone Marrow Donor Program/Be The Match program (click here).  Once you log in, use the promo code “Kelly” when prompted by the system, and you will not have to pay for a cheek-swab kit that will be mailed to your home with instructions.  Many people are never contacted since suitable matches are rare, “but if you do match, you can save someone’s life.”
