UW-Green Bay Assistant Prof. Dinesh Yadav (Theatre and Dance) has completed a three-week theatre workshop in August with 10-14 year-old children from the Green Bay area. Organized by the children’s wing of Brown County Central Library, the workshop ran from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Participants explored theatre tools like yoga, body-movement, acting, voice and speech and improvisation with Prof. Yadav to develop and improve self-awareness, collaboration and interpersonal skills to be sensitive to themselves and their surroundings. Nine participants worked on three stories from the book “We are Displaced” by Malala Yousufzai and presented one of the stories as their final presentation on August 23, 2019 in the auditorium of Brown County Central Library. Yadav was assisted by his former students.
Did you know that 53 percent of the Class of 2023 will be the first members of their families to graduate from college? Each year the number of first-generation students increases, and this year the University will support these students in their UW-Green Bay journey in new and very important ways. That effort starts on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019 when the University will host a first-generation student resource fair designed to provide them with “just in time” support. We are inviting faculty and staff who were the first members of their families to graduate from college to attend this event, meet our students, and talk with them about the journey. The event will be held in two blocks, 10 a.m. to Noon and 3 to 5 p.m. in the Phoenix Rooms. If you are interested in participating, please contact Vince Lowery, firstname.lastname@example.org.
It’s that time of year for UW-Green Bay freshmen to move into their college dorms. First-year students were scheduled to move into their assigned housing from 8 a.m. until Noon on Sunday, Sept. 1. More than 150 volunteers helped out around 700 first-year students. More via Move in day for UWGB students | #wearegreenbay.com#.
It starts with Move-in Day and is followed with a week’s worth of activities to help students find their way around campus, develop new friendships, and perhaps find a few mentors. See the video that captures a whirlwind first few days of the 2019-20 academic year for first-year students who are excited to begin their college journey, and the sentiment of a parent who is ready to let go.
