You can fly! Classes begin Jan. 28, 2019

Students ages 16 and older can expand their horizons through the realm of flight and aerodynamic with “Aviation and Aerodynamics for Private and Sports Pilots,” an offering from Continuing Education and Community Engagement. Participants can choose from three different locations and schedules:

  • Green Bay – Mondays – Jan. 28, 2019 through Apr. 1, 2019 – 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    CAVU Flight Academy, Executive Air Building at Austin Straubel Airport, 2131 Airport Dr.
  • Manitowoc – Tuesdays – Jan. 29, 2019 through Apr. 2, 2019 – 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    CAVU Flight Academy, Manitowoc County Airport, 1815 Freedom Way
  • Appleton – Wednesdays – Jan. 30, 2019 through Apr. 3, 2019 – 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    CAVU Flight Academy, Appleton Platinum Flight Center, N259 Ares Dr.

The course fee is $375 for private or sport pilots and includes course materials. Course fee does not include taking the FAA Knowledge Test or any associated materials. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The deadline to register is January 25, 2019 or until all spots are filled.

Manitowoc Campus Lakeshore Wind Ensemble and Lakeshore Big Band present ‘The Best of Broadway’

GREEN BAY – Gershwin, Rogers and Hammerstein, Hamlisch and Arlen! Join the UW-Green Bay, Manitowoc Campus Lakeshore Wind Ensemble and Lakeshore Big Band (LBB) as they present “The Best of Broadway,” Saturday, January 19, 2019, 7:30 p.m. at the Capitol Civic Centre. Under the direction of conductor Marc Sackman and LBB guest conductor Chris Woller, band members will perform a variety of favorites sure to get your feet tapping to the tunes.

Sackman has chosen selections from the musicals Babes in Toyland, Bye Bye Birdie, An American in Paris, Les Misérables and The Sound of Music for Lakeshore Wind Ensemble’s performance. Lakeshore Big Band highlights will include songs from The Wiz, Funny Face, A Chorus Line, The Wizard of Oz, Mame and Hello Dolly. The concert will include a performance by the vocal trio of David Bourgeois, Kim Hofmann and Barbara Whitcomb as well as solos by Hofmann and Bourgeois.

Following the concert, the audience is invited to a reception in the Capitol Civic Centre’s Mertens Family Lobby/Kadow Movie Museum to meet the conductors, vocalists and members of each band.
