Sweet treat, fond farewell: Campus says goodbye to Tom and Cathy Harden

harden-farewellThe UW-Green Bay community bade farewell to Tom and Cathy Harden July 30, enjoying a special Get the Scoop event on Harden’s penultimate day as chancellor.

Lines were long as students, faculty and staff waited for a sweet treat and a chance to say thank you and goodbye. Harden announced late last year that he would be stepping down as chancellor this summer, although he and Cathy plan to stay in the Green Bay area.

On Wednesday, Harden posted the following message on his Facebook page:

“Tomorrow is my last day as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. It has been an honor to serve the students, faculty, staff, alumni and community over the years. My thanks to those who have worked so diligently to advance the critical role of public higher education. Now more than ever, our state and nation need strong public universities, like UWGB. As Chancellor Emeritus, I will continue to support and defend the purpose and mission responsibilities of our outstanding institution. Cathy and I are grateful for your friendship and support.”

UW-Green Bay’s sixth chancellor, Gary Miller, begins his new role Aug. 1.

Sweet sendoff for Chancellor Harden

Join Tom and Cathy Harden for one scoop or two on Wednesday, July 30, from noon to 2:30 p.m., on the outdoor plaza outside the University Union (and above Student Services). It’s a chance for faculty, staff and students to say thanks on Tom’s next-to-last official day as chancellor, and wish both of the Hardens the best in their new endeavors. Enjoy a waffle cone bowl and your choice of chocolate, vanilla, salted caramel or butter pecan ice cream. Or bring your own reusable bowl. In any event, hope to see you there.

Get the Scoop today

The Chancellor’s going-away “Get the Scoop” is in two weeks, but don’t forget about the regular “Scoop” today (Wednesday, July 16) from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Union. Featured flavors are strawberry and cookies & cream, at the always low, low price of $1 for a double scoop.

Now it’s summer — Get the Scoop kicks off Wednesday

Our weather’s been better but it’s really not summer until the Union’s Get the Scoop ice cream days get under way. Lucky for us, the wait is almost over — the inaugural Get the Scoop of the season will take place from noon until 2:30 tomorrow (Wednesday, June 4) on the Student Services Plaza. It’s just $1 for a double scoop, with pass and dining points, cash and credit accepted. Wednesday’s flavors are bunny tracks, butter pecan, chocolate and vanilla.
