UW-Green Bay’s 6:30 Concert Series continues Dec. 12, with ‘Swing for the Holidays’

GREEN BAY – The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s 6:30 Concert Series continues its season with, “(There’s No Place Like) Swing for the Holidays – Featuring the Music of Ella Fitzgerald” on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the Weidner Center’s Cofrin Family Hall.

The concert features the holiday music of Ella Fitzgerald (as sung by UW-Green Bay’s Courtney Sherman), with appearances by the Green Bay Jazz Orchestra and UW-Green Bay Music faculty. Proceeds from this ticketed event support the year-long, free 6:30 Concert Series.

Courtney Sherman

Featured singer Courtney Sherman is well known to Green Bay audiences. She has performed soprano solos in Verdi’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Handel’s Messiah as well a wide range of art song and chamber repertoire. She is an Associate Professor of Music at UW-Green Bay, teaching courses for both the Music and Theatre programs. She regularly serves as the conductor and music director for UW-Green Bay’s musical theatre productions, including Cabaret, Avenue Q, Legally Blonde and Nunsense.

Members of the Green Bay Jazz Orchestra are John Salerno, alto saxophone 1; Lada Gaines, alto saxophone 2; Steve Johnson, tenor saxophone 1; Ken Barhite, tenor saxophone 2; Jen Johnson, baritone saxophone; Pat Phelan, trumpet; John Daniel, trumpet; Dan Marbes, trumpet; Adam Gaines, trumpet; Bill Hill, trombone; Kelly Galarneau, trombone; Bill Dennee, trombone; Eric High, trombone; Michelle McQuade Dewhirst, horn; Christine Salerno, piano; Andrew Bader, bass; Bill Sallak, drums and Matt Hillman, guitar.

About the 6:30 Concert Series

  • Take place in the Weidner Center’s Fort Howard Hall, Cofrin Family Hall or Grand Foyer
  • Begin at 6:30 PM
  • Last between 60 and 90 minutes
  • Are free and open to the public (excluding the Dec. 12 concert); donations are gladly accepted.
