UW-Green Bay’s Alumni Reunion Days also open to community

Members of the general public are invited to join University of Wisconsin-Green Bay alumni, former and current employees, friends and families for the institution’s first-ever Alumni Reunion Days Friday night and Saturday, Nov. 1 and 2.

The weekend’s activities span a range of eras and interests. The lineup includes music, sports, art, comedy, outdoor activities, a vintage photo display, guided tours, family options and more. Highlights include both an opening-night reception and a Saturday brunch that will provide opportunities for alumni to reconnect with favorite faculty and staff members, past and present.

Kari (Heier) Moody, a Class of 2000 grad who serves as alumni relations director, says she is encouraged by the early response and expects several hundred registrations for the weekend.

“Really, it’s something people have talked about for years,” Moody says. “We’re hearing from grads and our (Alumni Association) board members that the time is right for a more ambitious, universitywide event.”

UW-Green Bay has more than 31,000 alumni. The University is closing in on 50 years since its founding in 1965. Facilities, enrollment, alumni rolls and even landscaping have grown and changed dramatically since fall 1969 when the Shorewood campus opened as little more than a three-building complex overlooking the bay at 2420 Nicolet Drive.

“We were talking the other day about how the (Reunion Days) activities really have something for everyone,” Moody adds. “Even non-alumni are going to find things of interest. If you haven’t visited campus recently, we’re offering events at the Weidner Center and the Kress Events Center and free campus tours, so it’s a great opportunity to see how we’ve grown.”

Some Alumni Reunion Days activities are free and open to the public. Others — such as meals, movies, the Weidner Center concert and Phoenix sporting events — require admission fees or a weekend pass. A full-access pass for Alumni Reunion Days is $25 for one or two people, includes a free Phoenix Pride t-shirt, and covers admission to all events listed below. Passes are $5 for each additional person. Proceeds benefit the UW-Green Bay Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.

Advance registration is requested, a simple online form at www.uwgbalumnireuniondays.eventbrite.com. Visitors who are not pre-registered should report to the information and registration desk in the Alumni Rooms, located at the far end of the Cloud Commons dining room on the main (second) level of the University Union, anytime during the weekend.
