Concert Choir and University Singers present songs from the Protestant Reformation, European selections and a few musical favorites, Oct. 21

GREEN BAY –  The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Concert Choir and University Singers will be performing at the Cofrin Family Hall of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in-person at all Ticket Star locations, including the Resch Center and the University Ticketing and Information Center, or online at www.weidnercenter.com.

The UW-Green Bay Concert Choir will perform a variety of music, including a set of works that came out of the Protestant Reformation. There will be hymns of Martin Luther set by Johann Walther and J. S. Bach, a Calvinist hymn setting by Claude Goudimel and a German motet by Heinrich Schütz. The Green Bay Choral Artists, which consists of alumni and community members, will sing three works from the Renaissance period; an Anglican Anthem, a French chanson and a movement of a Mass based on the earlier French piece.

The University Singers will be offering a diverse selection. As the American International Czech and Slovak Voice Competition at UW-Green Bay, Oct. 13, 14 and 15, this concert highlights central European selections by Antonin Dvorak, (“Goin’ Home”), Bela Bartok (Three Hungarian Folksongs) and Bedrich Smetana (the opening chorus of the opera, The Bartered Bride). Other featured works are “Ausz tieffer Noth,” acknowledging the 500-year anniversary of the Reformation; an Italian canzonetta, “So ben mi ch’a bon tempo,” and highlights from a musical favorite, The Music Man. The program will conclude featuring student soloists in the gospel rock song, “He Never Failed Me Yet.”
