‘Leading Yourself Well First’ among courses offered by SBDC at UW-Green Bay

The Wisconsin Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UW-Green Bay is offering two October workshops in its ongoing Supervisory Leadership Certificate Program Series.

The month’s first workshop, “Time Management and Delegation,” will take place from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7. Instructor Joe Simon will explore the understanding and appreciation of time, people and who you are as key ingredients to leaders’ success. This session is ideal for business owners, managers, team leaders, directors, project managers, supervisors and employees looking to take on leadership roles.

The second October workshop, “Leading Yourself Well First,” will be held from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21. Instructor Jamie Schramm will help attendees go beyond consideration of the skills of a good leader, encouraging them to lead themselves first, which can be the most difficult step in one’s leadership journey. By exploring six key questions, Schramm will encourage workshop participants to consider their leadership qualities and examine factors that can prevent leaders from taking this important first step.

Designed for managers who are looking to build leadership skills and advance their businesses, the Supervisory Leadership Certificate Program and its component courses provide practical and interactive content that attendees can immediately integrate into their workplace leadership. The flexible program is designed for individuals who are just starting out on their leadership path, as well as more seasoned leaders who wish to improve upon specific skills.

Participants who wish to earn a Supervisory Leadership Certificate will be required to attend the two Core programs, Supervisory Leadership I (starts Oct. 13) and Supervisory Leadership II, as well as their choice of several elective programs within three years. However, individuals may take courses whether or not they intend to pursue the certificate. A complete list of courses and a downloadable brochure are available at www.uwgb.edu/sbdc/html/programs.asp.

All Supervisory Leadership programs are held at the Advance Business & Manufacturing Center, 2701 Larsen Road, Green Bay. All two-day elective courses are $425 per person and all one-day courses are $200 per person, with group discounts available. Workshops meet from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on the scheduled dates.
