Major grants awarded to UW-Green Bay’s Center for Public Affairs

The Center for Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has received three grants totaling more than $212,000 to conduct three quality of life studies in the Fox River region.

The Leading Indicators for Excellence (LIFE) Study is being conducted in Brown County, Southern Winnebago County and the Fox Cities in conjunction with the St. Norbert College Survey Center.

“The purpose of the LIFE Study is to develop a clear understanding of the overall quality of life in these three communities and in the region as a whole,” said Lora Warner, director of the Center.

Warner says the collaborative effort will help identify needs and priorities for the communities involved.

The LIFE Study will focus on 10 key areas including education, public safety, children and families, economic conditions, environmental issues, recreation and the arts.

The research will include a survey of community leaders, focus groups with key demographic segments, a random sample citizen survey, thorough review of relevant secondary data, and expert panel discussion from each category area.

A comprehensive report and executive summary for each community, as well as a regional summary including information from all three communities, will be released in September 2011.

The sponsors of the LIFE Study by community are: Brown County – Greater Green Bay Community Foundation, Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and Brown County United Way; Fox Cities – United Way Fox Cities, Community Foundation Fox Valley Region, Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce and Fox Cities Economic Development Partnership; Southern Winnebago County – Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, Oshkosh Area United Way and U.S. Oil Open Fund for Basic Needs.

The Center for Public Affairs, located on the campus of UW-Green Bay, strives to enhance civic engagement and quality of life by conducting research, offering internships, sponsoring educational programs and providing a mechanism for collaboration by community organizations.
