UW-Green Bay Chamber Ensembles concert is May 5

GREEN BAY –The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Chamber Ensembles will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 5 at the University Theatre in Theatre Hall on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive. This event is free and open to the public.

Performing will be the UW-Green Bay Brass Ensemble, directed by Associate Prof. Adam Gaines; and UWGB Hand Drumming Ensemble, directed by Ben Hogan, Artist in Residence.

The UW-Green Bay Hand Drumming Ensemble opens the program with three of Cheryl Grosso’s (UWGB Prof. Emerita) compositions — “Rhythm Chant GG,” “Rhythm Chant 6.06” and “Rhythm Chant C & R,” and will conclude with “Piru Bole” by John Bergamo.

Hand Drumming Ensemble personnel: Owin Cantable, Rebekah Erdman, Isaiah Hernandez, Sabrena Koren, Thomas Sielaff, Beth Waldeck, Kevin Wellens, Thomas Zwicker.

Followed by a brief intermission, the Brass Ensemble performs “Providebam Dominum” by Orlande de Lassus, followed by “Trumpet Tune and Air” (Henry Purcell, arranged by Brown) “Ricercare” (Johann Fischer, arranged by Pelz), “Allegro” (Johann Wilhelm Hassler, arranged by Pelz), “Prelude and Fugue” (Felix Mendelssohn), “Introduction to Act III of Die Meistersinger” (Richard Wagner, translated by King), “March” (Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, arranged by Pelz), “Russian Sailor’s Dance” (Reinhold Gliere, arranged by Siekmann), and concluding with “Londonderry Air” (Traditional, arranged by Lovell Ives).
