UW-Green Bay student Sam Stranz, a student of Associate Prof. John Salerno, will present his Junior Recital at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27 in the Jean Weidner Theatre at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
Stranz, a saxophonist, will be assisted by Salerno on piano, and fellow student Tony Pesavento (bass) and UW-Green Bay alumnus Terry Iattoni (drums). The recital is presented in partial fulfillment of requirements for the Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies at the University. It is free and open to the public.
Stranz will begin the recital with Jimmy van Heusen’s “Like Someone in Love,” before continuing with his own composition, “Salads ‘Til September.” He’ll move on to Hoagy Carmichael’s “Stardust,” before performing two of his own arrangements, on Art Hickman’s “Rose Room” and Charlie Parker’s “Yardbird Suite.” Stranz will play another of his own compositions, “Donna Who?” and conclude with his own arrangement of Charles Mingus’ “Nostalgia in Times Square.”
The recital is the 27th concert of the 2012-13 season for UW-Green Bay, an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. More information is available at www.uwgb.edu/music.
