Information sessions upcoming about earning a bachelor’s degree closer to home

GREEN BAY — For Northwoods Wisconsin residents wishing to enhance their education, earning a University of Wisconsin-Green Bay bachelor’s degree takes only a short drive or an Internet connection and a computer.

A partnership between UW-Green Bay and Nicolet College in Rhinelander puts a UW System bachelor’s degree within reach without disrupting everyday life activities, said Eric Craver, director of marketing and recruitment for UW-Green Bay’s Office of Adult Degree Programs.

“In today’s economy, with high unemployment rates and increased chances of corporate layoffs, having a bachelor’s degree can be more important than ever to gain and maintain employment,” Craver said.

Through the partnership between Nicolet College and UW-Green Bay’s Adult Degree Program, bachelor’s degrees can be obtained by taking a majority of classes at Nicolet College and online with minimal travel to Green Bay, Craver said. Also, many areas of emphasis within the bachelor’s degree areas can be pursued completely online, or by taking classes in Rhinelander with none required in Green Bay.

Three academic advisers from UW-Green Bay will be on the Nicolet College campus on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 21 and 22, to meet with current and prospective students about bachelor’s degree opportunities available through the partnership. These advisers will be located in the Academic Advising Office on the second floor of the University Transfer Center at Nicolet College, 5364 College Drive, Rhinelander.

Craver will also be presenting two free public information seminars about educational opportunities in the Northwoods area that week.

The first seminar is at 6 p.m. Monday, April 20, at the Lac du Flambeau Tribal Education Center, 562 Peace Pipe Road, Lac du Flambeau.

The second seminar is at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, in room 202 of the University Transfer Center on the Nicolet College campus, 5364 College Drive, Rhinelander.

Anyone interested in attending the free public information seminars or meeting with an adviser can pre-register by calling the UW-Green Bay Adult Degree Program Office at (800) 621-2313, or register online at www.uwgb.edu/adultdegrees/infosessions.
