UW-Green Bay Alumni Association Awards April 30

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has announced the recipients of the 2011 Alumni Association Awards. The winners will be recognized at Alumni Awards Night from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, April 30, in the grand foyer of Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. The award ceremony will begin with a 5 p.m. social and will follow with dinner at 6 p.m. The cost is $30 per person.

The annual alumni awards ceremony recognizes alumni who have made special contributions to the University and their community.

There will be a presentation of both Distinguished Alumni Awards and the Outstanding Recent Alumni award. Award winners were selected by a committee for having distinguished themselves in professional work, career accomplishments and community involvement.

This year’s Distinguished Alumni Award recipients are:

Daoud Abboud '87Daoud Abboud ’87 (Information and Computing Science), founder and CEO of United Technology Solutions-UTS Group in Jordan. Abboud established UTS Group — his own enterprise providing diverse products and services to cover client’s technology and business needs, with more than 100 employees and branches in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Abboud is the chairman of Gift of Life Amman (GOLA), a nonprofit charitable organization treating children with Congenital Heart Disease.

Robert Cera '84Robert Cera ’84 (Managerial Accounting), president and CEO of Baylake Corp. and Baylake Bank and a member of the Wisconsin Bankers Association Board of Directors. He joined Baylake in 2006, and has been in the financial services industry for nearly 20 years. Cera, a certified public accountant, has a history of civic and community involvement during his career and currently serves as a board member and treasurer of the Ronald McDonald House of Eastern Wisconsin Charities Inc., Milwaukee, and has been a member of UW-Green Bay’s Founders Association Board of Directors since 2007.

Laura (Busby) Hollingsworth '89Laura (Busby) Hollingsworth ’89 (Communication Processes), has served as Group President for Gannett’s U.S. Community Publishing Division since 2008, and oversees 22 markets in seven states. She is also the president and publisher of The Des Moines Register, which publishes a newspaper, six web and mobile brands, nine community newspapers, 16 community weeklies, and a multitude of magazines and special products. She started her career as a retail sales executive at the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Jody Weyers '96The Outstanding Recent Alumni Award recognizes alumni within 15 years of graduation who are making important contributions to their communities and professions. This year the award will be presented to Jody Weyers ’96 (Communication Processes), volunteer and communications director for the American Red Cross, Green Bay. Weyers is the spokesperson for the Lakeland Chapter of the American Red Cross and manages 450 volunteers who are registered within the organization in an eight county area.
