UW-Green Bay to welcome guest artist from Brazil for Feb. 12 vocal recital

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will host a Brazilian Arts Song Recital featuring a special guest artist at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12 in Fort Howard Hall at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.

Guest artist Yuka de Almeida Prado, soprano from the University of São Paulo in Ribeirão Preto, Brazil, will be the featured performer for Sunday’s concert. She will sing a variety of pieces by such varied artists as José Antônio Rezende de Almeida Prado, Osvaldo Lacerda, Waldemar Henrique da Costa Pereira and Mozart Camargo Guarnieri.

Prado’s visit to campus is the result of a meeting last summer with UW-Green Bay Music Prof. Sarah Meredith Livingston, who spent nearly two weeks at the University of São Paulo as part of a Senior Fulbright Grant. Meredith Livingston taught and performed at a July International Choir Festival on campus, and in so doing met fellow professor and vocalist Prado. The two are exploring possible further partnerships between their universities.

Educated in Japan and Brazil, Prado has performed in both countries, as well as Taiwan and Portugal, singing a wide range of chamber music and art songs. In addition, she has presented first auditions of vocal music at a variety of well-known theatres in Brazil. Since 2005, Prado has been an assistant professor of singing in the Department of Music at Ribeirão Preto School of Philosophy, Sciences and Literature at University of São Paulo.

Sunday’s recital, the 23rd concert of the 2011-12 season, is free and open to the public. UW-Green Bay, an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music, is located at 2420 Nicolet Drive.
