UW-Green Bay gets groovy with Jazz Fest 46 – Big Band Blast! featuring the NEW Jazz All Stars

GREEN BAY – The annual music tradition Jazz Fest continues Saturday, Feb. 6 at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Jazz Fest 46 – Big Band Blast! culminates with public concerts at 6 and 7:30 p.m. in the Cofrin Family Hall of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts, on campus.

Since its inception more than four decades ago, UW-Green Bay’s Jazz Fest has drawn middle- and high-school students from across the region for a day of ensemble performances and clinic and master clinic sessions. This year Freedom High School, director Jon Delany; Green Bay West High School, director David Viste; Notre Dame High School, director William Hill; and Two Rivers High School, director Andy Pagel will play select pieces at the 6 p.m. concert.

The NEW Jazz All Stars under the direction of UWGB prof. Adam Gaines makes its new professional big band debut with some of the best musicians and educators in Northeast Wisconsin. The NEW Jazz All Stars will also be featuring the music of Chuck Dotas, a UWGB alumnus and professor of music and coordinator of Jazz Studies at James Madison University. His music has been performed worldwide.

The NEW Jazz All Stars will be joined during the concert by the National Guard’s 132nd Army Patriot Jazz Band. The approximate 19-member citizen-soldier-musicians band plays a variety of music including traditional Big-Band jazz favorites, Top 40 at Motown and Blues.
