Cofrin Library to cut ribbon on new collaborative space

‘Breakthrough® Studio’ grand opening is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26

Green Bay, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay is celebrating a new collaborative space in its award-winning David A. Cofrin Library. A ribbon-cutting for “Breakthrough® Studio,” sponsored by Breakthrough® Fuel, is planned for 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26 on the Cofrin Library’s third floor. The studio space is on trend with student demand for spaces that allow for conversation, collaboration and access to technology as projects and research are taking place.

“The growing demand for this space reflects the way our workforce works today,” said Cofrin Library Director Paula Ganyard. “The space is equipped with technology and access to power that allows students to connect their personal devices and collaborate with fellow students and the outside world. Students will notice a welcoming atmosphere, some awesome new furniture, cafe style tables and larger work spaces that can easily accommodate multiple groups of students.”

Breakthrough®Fuel is a global transportation energy management firm located in downtown Green Bay, with close ties to UW-Green Bay. Currently 10 UW-Green Bay alumni work for the company, including founder and CEO Craig Dickman. Dickman is a 1982 UW-Green Bay business administration graduate who serves as a member of the Council of Trustees.

“We believe that breakthroughs occur in the gaps. They occur in those unexpected moments when people meet for the first (or fiftieth) time and conversations lead to new ideas,” said Dickman. “We know that collaboration is the key to success and hope that this space will continue to fuel the students at University of Wisconsin-Green Bay forward.”

Ganyard said the room is already in use and extremely popular. The ribbon-cutting is about celebrating and recognizing the gift that made it happen, she says. Ganyard, Dickman and UW-Green Bay Chancellor Gary L. Miller are expected to make brief remarks.

The ceremony and brief reception is free and open to the public.
