UW-Green Bay hires McKenna for new position in University Advancement

geno-mckenna-smallThe University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has added Geno McKenna of Green Bay to fill a newly structured position in the Office of University Advancement.

McKenna will join the staff Dec. 29 as Assistant for Community Engagement, Stewardship and Event Planning.

In announcing the appointment, Assistant Chancellor Jeanne Stangel said McKenna will be responsible for being a liaison to key constituencies and directing dozens of donor and community events annually. He will work closely with the Chancellor’s Office and leaders across campus as well as with colleagues in University Advancement.

The designation of a single person as event coordinator, Stangel said, reflects UW-Green Bay’s ever-expanding emphasis on stewardship, fundraising and community engagement.

“This position carries a tremendous amount of responsibility in terms of connecting with the community and also showcasing the tremendous talent of our students, faculty, staff and alumni,” Stangel said. “Geno is a highly qualified professional with extensive stewardship, event planning and fundraising skills.”

McKenna brings to the position more than 20 years of private-sector management experience. He was previously the director of meetings and incentives for American Medical Security and a recruiting sales manager for Schneider National, both of Green Bay. Earlier, he worked in the hospitality industry as national sales manager for Hilton’s Drake Hotel in Chicago, and as director of reservation sales for Omni Hotels in Chicago, San Antonio and Dallas.

More recently, McKenna has owned and operated Geno McKenna & Associates LLC, his own corporate meeting and incentive planning agency, since 2006.

A graduate of St. Norbert College in De Pere, McKenna is active in the community. He serves as a member of the Resurrection Parish Site Advisory Council, and is a former board member, president, co-chair and secretary of the annual Celebrate De Pere festival.
