UW-Green Bay campus community mourns the loss of Prof. Emeritus Robert Pum

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay mourns the loss of Prof. Emeritus Robert “Pummer” Pum, who passed away on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019 at the age of 83. He retired in 1998 from teaching Art at UW-Green Bay but remained close to campus through Phoenix athletics, the University golf league, building bird houses for Shorewood Golf Course, and more.

Here is an excerpt from his obituary:

“While he was finishing his doctorate, he accepted a professorship and was one of the founding members of the UWGB art department in 1969, serving as art department chairman for two terms. He led university courses including drawing, two-dimensional design, art metals/jewelry, aesthetic foundations, arts in society, art education methods and independent art studies. He devoted much of his teaching to assisting the state’s next generation of art teachers, supervising the student-teaching assignments of UWGB students in the northeast Wisconsin public and private schools. Pum has exhibited his work nationally, regionally and locally in more than 150 juried art exhibits in 22 states. Known for his jewelry, drawing and mixed-media art, he was the recipient of numerous art awards, merit awards and purchase awards.”

Pum is survived by his wife, Jan (a long-tenured member of Green Bay Athletics, mainly as the University’s women’s tennis coach), and children. Friends may call on the family Friday, Dec. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Proko Wall Funeral Home on 1630 East Mason St. in Green Bay, WI, 54302.
