Walker touts tech education, two-year degrees

Gov. Scott Walker told this region’s business and economic development leaders at the New North Summit earlier this week that, “We don’t have a jobs problem, we have a work problem and a skills problem.” The governor said the solution has to be a “multi-pronged” approach that ensures more collaboration between employers and educators, provides a streamlined regulatory climate, and promotes technical careers. “We need to change the mindset of students, of parents, of guidance counselors and others in terms of the fact that there are just as many, recently more, good paying careers — not just jobs — that require a two-year technical degree as opposed to a four-year undergraduate degree,” Walker was quoted by Gannett Media.
