Remembering James Bartelt

Tag icon

We note here the passing of James Bartelt, a gentleman who in his own way was a preeminent chronicler of early UW-Green Bay. Bartelt was a well-respected, longtime Green Bay Press-Gazette reporter and editor who also headed up the paper’s Madison bureau. If you have ever spent any time in the UWGB archives looking at old news clips, especially from the 1960s and 1970s, you’ve seen Bartelt’s byline many times. We’re told he had a good working relationship with Founding Chancellor Edward Weidner. Bartelt passed away Oct. 19 in Madison. An obituary is online.
