Mark your calendars for 6:30 Concert Series (and Beethoven Refractions)

We will have more in future Log postings, but you may want to get the 6:30 Concert Series of events on your calendars. The 6:30 Concert Series is an innovative performance series designed to connect the campus and local communities with music in a deeper way. Performances feature insightful presentations by performers, composers, and special guests. The first performance will feature Jiebing Chen playing the erhu and Hsin Wei Lin on piano. Chen delighted audience members with her story and her incredible talent in last year’s After Thoughts series. See the post. The 6:30 Concert Series is highlighted online.

‘Beethoven Refractions’ is a special series inside the 6:30 Concert Series this year and begins September 13. In this series, pianist Michael Rector explores the meaning of Beethoven through the music of other great composers—from quotation and allusion to compositional craft and biographical inspiration. The first three lecture-recitals examine Schumann, Liszt and Ligeti, while the final program shows refractions of J. S. Bach in Beethoven’s music. Guest artists include soprano Courtney Sherman, cellist Michael Dewhirst and pianist Sylvia Hong. Read more here.
