Campus mourns loss of longtime friend James Madigan

Campus mourns the passing of James (Jim) Madigan, a friend and supporter of the University since 1969, and father of UW-Green Bay alumni Dan ’85, Cindy (Bell) ’75 and James ’80. Jim received the Chancellor’s Award — the University’s most esteemed community honor — in 1978. He and his wife Doris, founded neighboring FEECO International, and supported UW-Green Bay in multiple ways through the years. Jim was a former president of the Founders Association Board and President of the Ecumenical (now Mauthe) Center. He was known to be generous with his time, talent, treasure and sense of humor. A tribute to Doris featuring their long-standing friendship with Founding Chancellor Ed Weidner and other members of the campus community was published in 2010. Jim passed away on May 22, the anniversary of his marriage to Doris. Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 4 to 6:45 p.m. A prayer service will follow at 7 PM. Visitation will continue at Holy Cross Parish (3002 Bay Settlement Rd., Green Bay), Friday, May 26, 2017 from 9 to 10:45 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Full military honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the funeral Mass. To leave an online condolence for the family, please visit www.NewcomerGreenBay.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jim’s name will be directed to charities that were close to his heart.
