Pub for pedestrians’ public safety

We announced last week that UW-Green Bay Public Safety received grant money to help protect pedestrians at crossings. Green Bay Press-Gazette correspondent Patti Zarling interviewed UWGB Sergeant Jeff Gross about the effort in conjunction with the Green Bay city police to try to get drivers to be more aware of those on foot nearby.  “Officers also are stopping drivers to remind them to slow down, or that they could be ticketed for inattentive driving, speeding or failure to stop for a pedestrian. Fines for failure to yield are $326 on UWGB’s campus and about the same throughout Green Bay,” Gross is quoted. “But the idea isn’t to get drivers in trouble,” he said. “We want them to become aware, and to practice looking for pedestrians and bicyclists.”  We appreciate it.
