This year, UW-Green Bay landed two student business entries into the annual Wisconsin Big Idea Tournament in Madison on Saturday, April 21, including one of only two at-large submissions. All four colleges at UW-Green Bay are involved in developing the teams, as students competing represent diverse majors across campus including business administration, psychology, engineering and mathematics. Team “Stability,” founded by three students who won the campus Innovation in Aging competition, hosted by the College of Health, Education, and Social Welfare (www.facebook.com/groups/UWGBAging), adds technology to product lines designed for people suffering from tremors, restoring dignity to the users of their products because their solutions hide in plain sight. The “Local Food Experiment” won last year’s UWGB Student Business Idea Contest, and competed at last year’s “The Pitch” (http://thepitchfoxcities.com), and recently was recognized with the only student-run social enterprise award at the Force for Positive Change event put on by WARF in Milwaukee. The Local Food Experiment sources ingredients from local farmers for nutritious eco-friendly eating in a subscription format for its customers. The students will compete with teams from the other four-year UW campuses for cash prizes and an invitation to Provo, Utah, for the International Business Model Competition (www.businessmodelcompetition.com) on May 10-11, 2018.
