Martin looking for jury members for retrial of Socrates

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Please, take up your civic duty to Athens by participating as a member of the jury in a re-trial of Socrates, son of Sophroniscus of Alopece, from 5 to 6 p.m. this Wednesday, March 30 in MAC Hall 208. Socrates is charged by Meletus of Pitthos with (a) Refusing to recognize the Gods recognized by the State, (b) Introducing new Gods and (c) Corrupting the Athenian youth.  Meletus of Pitthos has asked Prof. Greg Aldrete to prosecute Socrates, while Socrates of Alopece has asked Prof. Hye-Kyung Kim to defend him against these charges. The Athenian people have requested that Prof. Alison Staudinger help jury members to consider the contextual merits and demerits of determining Socrates’ guilt or innocence all these years later. The professors have approximately 10 minutes each to present their cases. Jury members will be asked to consider their arguments, raise questions for clarification or other further thought, and, at 6:00 p.m., cast your vote for guilt or innocence. Prof. Christopher Martin will provide a brief introduction and explain the rules, after which it will be up to you, the jury, to insure that rules are followed and justice is served. The public is welcome to participate.
