Phoenix falls to Valpo, 54-44, in first conference title game in 17 years

It’s been a tough couple months for Green Bay teams coming oh-so-close to advancing to their sport’s biggest stages.  First, the Packers in Seattle. Now, the Phoenix in Valparaiso. The Green Bay men’s basketball team played well for two-thirds of the game but then, like the Packers, went stone cold late (1 of 14 FGs down the stretch) and fell 54-44 to top-seeded Valparaiso on Tuesday night in the title game of the 2015 Horizon League Championships at the Athletics and Recreation Center. The Phoenix (24-8) is probably a long-shot to get an NCAA bid but is likely to draw interest from the NIT. Coach Brian Wardle was the first UW-Green Bay coach to lead his team to a conference championship game since Mike Heideman, in 1998. Recap of the game.
