UW-Green Bay Prof. Draney confirms: black widow spider found in Brown County

Campers at Bay Shore County Park in Brown County, Dyckesville found a spider whose appearance was very similar to that of a black widow. UW-Green Bay Professor Michael Draney (Biology) later confirmed that the spider found is indeed a northern black widow. “It is possible that we’re seeing more black widows now because of our warmer winters and our warming climate, the northern widow is at the northern edge of its range so this is about as cold as it can tolerate,” Draney commented the finding.
