Rare appearance of dwarf lake iris at Door County sanctuary

The wetlands at Door Country nature preserve are veiled with dwarf lake iris; beautiful, purple-petaled flowers with highlights on white and yellow are blooming in The Ridges Sanctuary in Bailey’s Harbor. It is a rare treat for the eye of visitors, as they are only out for a short time. Dwarf lake iris is a state threatened species, just like orchids, which also grow in the sanctuary grounds. UW-Green Bay researchers help Matt Peter, The Ridges Sanctuary manager, to understand the requirements to protect and restore the species. The Ridges Sanctuary, home to over 500 different plants, is a 1,600-acre nature preserve located in Baileys Harbor in northern Door County. Fox 11 News has the full story.
