NPR’s national shout-out to UW-Green Bay music program, football concert

There were proud moments Friday for people associated with UW-Green Bay’s music program after a National Public Radio segment referenced the school and a University-organized concert. Morning Edition music commentator Miles Hoffman filed a lengthy, light-hearted Super Bowl piece comparing the classical music scenes in Green Bay and Pittsburgh.

While the Steelers’ hometown rightfully drew praise for its world-class symphony, Titletown fared well, too. Hoffman mentioned the “strong music program” at UW-Green Bay as well as the fall NFL Films concert hosted by the Civic Symphony of Green Bay. (Co-starring in that program were the student Wind Symphony under the direction of Prof. Kevin Collins and the “Tundra Alumni” big band led by Prof. John Salerno. Staff member Chris Sampson helped organize the concert.)

The report had a positive conclusion: Fine music, sort of like good NFL football, is capable of thriving all over America in cities large and small. Collins and media relations coordinator Robert Hornacek assisted Hoffman by supplying links, sound cuts and background info. To hear the full report, with campus references, click here.
