Psychology chair Ryan Martin provided some insight into the lottery mindset Tuesday (Dec. 17), speaking with Fox 11 News just hours ahead of the big Mega Millions jackpot drawing. Martin explained why people might play the lottery, despite the astronomical odds against hitting the jackpot. People may be encouraged to play after they hear stories of other people winning big, thinking that if it can happen to someone else, it can happen to them, Martin said. “I think people play because they want to be able to dream about what it’s like to win all that money,” he added.
